Microorganism Destruction in Liquids:

Microorganisms in water are more safely, positively and economically destroyed by germicidal ultraviolet energy than by heat or chemical treatment – and normally with no taste nor odor change.

Because ultraviolet energy cannot penetrate solids, treatment of more turbid solutions which contain solids will normally result in only partial destruction of contained microorganisms. UV treatment of such solutions can at best be termed a “Control Treatment”, having intent to limit excessive growth in organisms.

• “Control Treatment” is applicable to brine solutions for cheese brining, liquified sugar, and reuse waters for washing vegetables, etc. Such solutions can be recirculated continuously from the holding tank through the UV system and back with Safgard straining devices in the pipeline to remove large particles.

Safgard Water Purifiers:

Purify water at rates 5 to 60 GPM with models having the Safgard “intimate treatment” and CIP-able (Clean In Place by recirculation) features. Commercial models have schedule 40 pipe fittings for connection in standard plumbing pipelines. Features of Safgard Water Purifiers include electropolished stainless steel UV cylinders, high efficiency lamps, quartz tube lamp housings, hour-counter meters, and pilot light, plus these models are assembled with the UV cylinder insulated to prevent the sweat problem. They are fitted into a stainless steel enclosure for ease and attractive appearance.

• All liquid contact surfaces (#1) are type 304 stainless steel (type 316 also available) electropolished for maximum sanitation and UV reflectivity.
  • Standard industrial models have clamp type sanitary fittings (100 psi)
  • Include a Tee Strainer (#27) on the inlet to prevent large parts from damaging the UV lamps.
• The high-intensity UV lamps (#3) (7500 hour rating) extend full length of the flow cylinders and are encased within quartz pipes (2) for protection and easy clean-ability.
  • The quartz cylinders are positioned in the tube end plates with large silicone rubber gaskets having finger tightening retainers (#4), (#5), and (#6).
• Liquid Flow is directed through the flow cylinders for intense, positive, intimate treatment.
• Each UV Lamp has a pilot light (#18) wired in series. The pilot light mounted on the panel face provides an indication that the lamp is operating.
  • The high-intensity UV lamps have a service life in excess of 7,500 hours, but to be sure of efficient operation we recommend lamps be replaced at 7,500 hours.
  • An hour calibrated time lapse meter (#17) is mounted in the control box to eliminate the need for record keeping.
• The design of Safgard Liquid UV units permits the flow cylinders (#1) to be recirculation cleaned (alkali-acid-rinse) permitting installation in CIP-able pipelines.

Safgard Liquid Purifier Sterilizer:

Safgard sanitized flow cylinders can be assembled to operate in series and/or in parallel to provide the required exposure time for UV treatment. The unitized design of Safgard Sanitary flow cylinders permits assembly for an unlimited capacity. The unitized design feature also permits the assemblies to be expanded or reduced in capacity for future changes.

• Constructed of choice of type 304 or 316 stainless steel. Can also do type 316 on all product contact surfaces and type 304 on all non-product contact surfaces.
• Welds grounded and polish finish. Tee Strainer included, mounted on the inlet.
• On/Off Switch, Indicating Lamps.
• Hour calibrated time lapse meter mounted in control box for service indication (change at 7,500 hours). 120V 60 Hz.

Mounting configuration indicated by any of three below Styles:

• WB Style: Wall Mounting with Brackets
• WC Style: Wall Mount in Cabinet with Brackets
• FC Style: Floor Mounted Cabinet with Legs

Wall Mount Models Many of the installations mount right in the production line (CIP-able with the pipeline), the models of capacity ranging from 5-200 GPM are mounted on a frame which may be wall mounted.

Floor Mount Models range in capacity from 200-1,200 GPM. The weight and bulk of such larger assemblies demand floor installation. All mounting frames are fabricated of type 304 stainless steel.

Cabinet Models are available for more attractive appearance, easy exterior cleaning, and where cold product may cause excessive condensation on the flow cylinders, such condensation can be collected and drawn off the cabinet bottom.

Standard Water Models:

Microbicidal ultraviolet water treatment is designed to eliminate the need for chemical additives and thermal processing. The nuclei of microorganisms exposed to ultraviolet radiation are altered so that the organisms are effectively destroyed.

To properly name the model, follow these instructions:

Operation and Design Features:

• Standard Dosage: 39,000 microwatt seconds per square centimeter (mws/cm sq.) at optimum conditions
• Proprietary proven individual cylinder design: Small Diameter cylinders with maximum two lamps per cylinder. Cylinders connected in series for progressive flow rates

• Electrical Requirements: 115 Volts, 1-Phase 65 watts/lamp
